Orc Arena is a location situated to the west of the Old Camp in the centre of the Valley of Mines.

History

This place isn't involved in main story nor included in any quest.

Description

The arena is surrounded by mountains. The only way to get there lies on the way from Cavalorn's hut. The road is marked by 2 tall black rustic stones creating an arch. 2 orcs guard the entrance of the Orc Arena. The opening presents a grey brick wall with lined arch. The part of the wall is split. Several spikes with human skulls can be seen nearby.

The arena itself consists of 2 parts: a round open space and a compact room. Round space is large, with amphitheater-like stone stairs leading to 4 columns. The columns are decorated with symbols on orc language, though it cannot be translated into words. In addition, they surround 2 grand statues of armored orcs holding hammer. Similarly, the statues surround cramped room's entrance, lined with white squared bricks in π–form.

The inner space is of irregular shape. Its walls are made of solid rough stones with molding and ornaments on the top. Around these walls, Nameless Hero can find 3 chests. Stone ceiling and floor serve as support for dark figured column. Underneath the column, a small heptagonal pool with round decorated pictures can be noticed. White nosing is also ornamented, on almost each of its corners there are 3 elixirs of healing and 4 elixirs of magic energy.

Gothic

Nameless Hero can visit this location when exploring the colony. As it isn't needed for any quest, all he can do is loot it.

Gothic II

In Gothic II, Orc Arena turns into the swamp and becomes a domain of the dragon Pandrodor.

Trivia

  • Around November 1999-2000, Orc Arena was originally planned to be part of the Orc City[1]. However, as this location took a lot of time in development and hasn't been completed to the end of 2000, it was cut from the game and the remaining assets were reused to create new locations in the main world.
    • Orc Arena was more vertical and was used for animal battles. The development document "Hauptmissionen_alle"[2] also mentions Orc-Arena Master and a related quest, in which Nameless Hero need to catch animals for the arena.
  • Interestingly, Orc Town also has a small arena.
  • The name of a waypoint mentions a Stone Golem. It's possible that the developers originally intended the creature to appear there.
